Philips PHDTV1 Silver Sensor UHF HDTV Digital Indoor TV Antenna

Enjoy sparkling high-definition programming without forking over monthly digital cable or satellite fees with this Philips indoor HDTV/UHF antenna. The device is specially designed to receive HD broadcast signals from the major free networks in all primary reception areas. If the affiliate broadcasts in HD, the PHDTV1 will receive it, provided the user also owns an HD-compatible television. The highly directional antenna features a high front-to-back ratio that helps reject unwanted signal corruption, ensuring that your picture comes in clear and true. This feature is especially valuable in dense urban areas with crowded broadcast airwaves, where reflected signals can interfere with HDTV transmission. The antenna also offers a flat front gain slope that balances the reception throughout the UHF frequencies. The result is a consistently high-resolution picture regardless of which channel you choose. The PHDTV1–which also connects to PCs anywhere datacasting is available–has been endorsed by several HDTV-testing committees.

3 Stars digital TV antennas
for rabbit ears digital replacement, i am not particularly impressed with this product, and would welcome suggestions concerning better reception. it cuts in and out of most stations.

4 Stars Phillips digital antenaa
I purchased the Phillips Digital TV antenna for use with a portable digital tv set. It worked great. I then connected it to my Samsung 59″ set and that worked great as well. I have Direct TV and when a heavy rain storm is overhead, I lose my signal. I merely change to the TV input using the Phillips antenna and I can still receive local channels.

5 Stars Simple, Yet Effective
Bought the PHDTV1 for $20 from a local surplus store. I was initially looking at some other antennas, specifically the DB2, CM4220 and 4221.

I’m within a half mile to the two major towers in Toronto. Buffalo towers are 50 and 77-79 miles away but within 3 degrees of the one atop the CN Tower. I’m on the 19th floor of my building with no obstructions… quite lucky!

The assembly was quite simple as the PHDTV1 is a no frills unit – snap the small mast onto the base, insert the ’sensor’ into the mast and thread the coax. I have a run of 20 feet of cable to the TV, no amp needed.

I get 13 HD channels including WGRZ which is rather difficult for many OTA users to nail down. I get another 13 in SD.

This unit may not work as well for you if you are close to ground, can’t point the antenna DIRECTLY towards the broadcast towers or have physical obstructions in the line-of-sight.

I gave up paying $90 monthly for HD service from Rogers, and searched several internet sites and discussion boards before deciding on the Philips.

Best of luck with your search.

2 Stars DIDN’T DO MUCH
This is a very cheaply made product that only brought in a few channels and most of those were shopping channels. Oddly enough though it only brought in 3 network affiliate channels that kept blinking in and out it brought in an independent channel from an adjoining state perfectly clear. Perhaps it depends on where you live but I am up on a hill in the Boston suburbs and expected better reception with this.

2 Stars Not very good
I purchased the antenna for a digital TV recently purchased. I live in the immediate city limits and that should have been adequate. I scanned the stations and had an increase of those found. The trouble is that the antenna which is close to a window and as high as possible loses those signals quickly. I scanned the channels prior to our six oclock news and watch a local station on CBS, then at 6:30 we switch to abc, which has in the half hour lost enough of the signal that it is unwatchable.

5 Stars Flat Antenna -flat out great!
Before I got a chance to hook the antenna up to my home T.V.; my son borrowed it for his place of employment- a restaurant. We are LSU Tiger fans. The restaurant installed a TV for the customers to be able to watch the game while they ate. It was a Saturday and the cable guys weren’t coming for a few days so we hooked up Flat Antenna. Poof the TV went from snow to crystal clear! It took a minute to hook it up. It’s out of sight. It was a great buy.

4 Stars antena
I’ve orderd this antena from Amazon and for less then 13$.It works for me.Ilive in Chicago area and I missing Ch2 only.

5 Stars It Just Works !
I purchased this RCA antenna not really thinking it could be very good for such a small price and odd form factor – however I was pleasantly surprised. It is thin and light and has one coax cable that you connect to your digital ready TV and in minutes you are done. A quick rescan for new channels and I found an additional 15 channels and the reception is outstanding. I highly recommend this antenna.

5 Stars With little effort…
I am very pleased with this product. I painstakingly read every review of every un-powered digital antenna. I labored over my choice and finally chose this RCA AMT 1400. It was shipped promptly to my home. I opened the box, unscrewed my bunny-ears, and screwed this antenna into my digital TV. With about a minute and a half of effort (including re-scanning my channels), I gained six more channels, and finally tuned in one that never quite came in correctly. Geez, I haven’t even played with its positioning. The product looks nice, has a low profile, doesn’t require a space on my already filled outlets, and had a very fair price. Now I’m just wondering if the new channels I get are worth wasting my already precious time.

5 Stars 22 stations
I have 2 of these. On one TV I pull in 22 stations. I like the design – I can prop it up between the window and the mini blinds. On a second TV at the other end of the house, it’s not any better than rabbit ears were. But that TV is too far from the window to put it behind the blinds, so maybe that’s why the reception is not as good.

2 Stars Watch out
This antenna did not give any better results than our “rabbit ears”. Not a magic cure. Probably depends on the location.

4 Stars Convinced Skeptic
If an antenna could be any easier to use, this one was. Reception had been been annoying before always re-adjusting the old antenna when tuned to certain stations. This one, in one position gets them all, even the weakest signal.

I also bought this being unsure how much the amplifier would boost the signal. It worked. I tried the antenna with and without the signal amp. There is definite boost in reception clarity. For my setup, I was feeding the antenna signal to the DVR and then on to the TV. I’m sure there was some signal in the connections and along the path. With this antenna, with the amplifier on, the digital signal is steady and strong, allowing for a nice picture. If you’re in a fringe reception area for some station or have a weaker signal because of configuration, this will make the difference. Good results and value for this price.

4 Stars Digital Antenna great
After years of using rabbit ears with my analog TV I was not prepared for the quality of the HD signal off this device. It is great.

3 Stars tv antenna
Not sure if its the tv or the antenna but I don’t get as many channels I had hoped for. Disappointed that if it truly an amplified antenna close local stations are pixely and never come in.

1 Star Not a true Digital antenna, avoid…
Nice looking unit.

However the one that I received from Amazon was opened and used before.

Anyway I tried the unit out, it picked up very few channels even after positioning the unit in several different locations (up high, beside a window etc).

The older rabbit ears that I had picked up the same channels…

I ended up returning this unit (tks to Amazon and their awesome service), and I more recently purchased the Terk HDTVa antenna – now this unit works straight away and offers really good reception as well as picking up all available digital channels in my area tks to it’s design and that it has proper UHF and VHF antennas…This is the unit that I would recommend to others…
